What a story! A lot of people ask me about the Riedel vessels (glasses and decanters).I answer with another question: How much are you into wine? The other week I was very fortunate to meet GEORG JOSEF RIEDEL 10 th generation MAGICIAN. Very interesting lecture and presentation. He called it the seduction of the wine. The concept of perception of the intimate secret of wine, human nature dictates the choice in the quality (better for the people we love and want to impress). His vessels will not improve the quality of the wine only the way we perceive it. Since perception IS reality it changes YOUR reality. The sense of smell (the gateway to the soul) at least for wine, for other things may be the eyes, is primal, that is where the layered concept (head space) and the specific wine varietal make the determination for the size and shape of the vessel. It’s not what the glasses are made of or its thickness. The rest is history. YES, invest in the varietal specific glasses (you will save a lot of money on the wine). So let me summarize this for you, when it comes to wine there are some important things you should consider: 1. The company we drink with 2. The temperature the wine is served at 3. Color, flavor, texture of the wine 4. Varietal specific glasses

Wine notes from Thursday at Darlene ( Vine Expressions)

8 January 2010
Here are some notes from Thursday's wholesale tasting: Matt - Republic 2007 MontGras Quatro Chile An elegant but powerful wine. Entering mouth you can feel sweet, soft and round tannins. At mid mouth we can feel its weight and power, showing as a wine with good structure. At the end, where we can still remember the black fruit, leave a bit more but in a less shy way its path through French oak. Romeo LIKE. Look for it on our menu. Eric- Megawine 2005 Kiamie, Kuvee “Paso Robles” Vineyard Sources: Halter Ranch Vineyard, DeBro Vineyard, Hopkins Vineyard, Beckwith Vineyard; Westside Paso Robles. The vineyard sources used in this blend are all from the Paso Robles Westside, a region well-known for its calcareous soils which are more closely akin to the premium winegrowing areas of Europe than those commonly found in California. Produced entirely from small-lot fermentations, the wine received a full month of maceration prior to pressing, followed by eighteen to twenty months of barrel aging comprising 40% new oak from premier French and Hungarian cooperage houses. The Kiamie Red Kuvée Blend emphasizes neither its Bordeaux nor its Rhône components, but rather reflects the balance and synergy of all its elements, creating a wine style defined by the blend of its unique fruit. This wine possesses a core of rich fruit enveloped by smooth tannins, providing enough structure to allow up to a decade of cellaring. Romeo- Great notes, private library Salute
